The silver lining is that modern exchanges have learned from other projects\u2019 past failures. In fact, if you know which specific features and qualities to look for, finding a reliable one is easy.
<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To wit, our own exchange – CoinCola – processes over 100,000 monthly transactions and has been online for over 5 years with no incident. In this article, we\u2019ll share what we learned in this time, going over the key features a safe, reliable crypto exchange needs to have.
<\/p>\n\n\n\n

#1 – Trading Volume<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Trading volume is an indicator of several things. First and foremost, a high trading volume means that a large number of users is frequenting an exchange. This is a strong indicator of trust and stability, both of which are important in the crypto space.
<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Second, trading volume means there\u2019s an active trading market, which in turn means you can buy and sell crypto quickly, easily, and at a fair price.
<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For these reasons, trading volume is one of the best predictors of whether you should use an exchange or not. Try to stick to services that process large numbers of transactions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

#2 – Community<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Crypto exchanges that are built to last tend to have one of two things. First, an active community that interacts via a Telegram channel, a public forum, or a social network page. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Second, a knowledge base (like the one you\u2019re reading right now) that strives to educate their users about cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology.
<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The reason is simple. Creating a community and\/or knowledge base is time-consuming and resource-intensive. If an exchange has one, it\u2019s very likely that the company is genuinely  providing added values to the users who invest in its own long-term success – another predictor of stability and user safety.

Should an exchange have both? Not necessarily. For example, OTC crypto marketplaces are<\/em> already social in that sellers and buyers interact directly with one another. Conversely, some trading platforms have strong communities but no knowledge base.

What matters is that some kind of valuable assets exists outside of just a \u201ctrading\u201d platform, proving that an exchange is both credible and functional.

#3 – Fees<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

There are two extremes here. On one hand, you should never trust any exchange or marketplace that claims to charge users 0%. As the old adage goes, if something seems<\/em> too good to be true, it probably is.
<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the other hand, you want to avoid platforms that are clearly going for a cash grab by charging high fees. As a rule of thumb, watch out for OTC fees in excess of 1.5% and exchange fees in excess of 0.5%.

#4 – Reputation<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Can you find any suspicious news about an exchange you\u2019re considering? <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Simply run a Google search and check if an exchange appears on reputable, popular media sites, such as CCN, AMBcrypto, and CoinTelegraph. Media coverage and exposure should be present, given that an exchange wanted to receive validation from the public. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another thing to look for is the number of online reviews, or possibly poor reviews. Of course, every product has its fair share of critics, but lots of negative feedback is a bad sign.

#5 – Security <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Which kind of security features does an exchange or marketplace use to protect your assets? Below are some of the most important ones (all of which we\u2019ve implemented here at CoinCola):

  1. 2-factor authentication<\/strong>: This uses SMS messages, e-mails, or passcodes to verify your identity before granting access. <\/li>

  3. Cold storage<\/strong>: wherein cryptocurrency reserves are stored in an offline repository, safe from cyber criminals.<\/li>

    El volumen de operaciones es un indicador de varias cosas. Principalmente, un alto volumen comercial indica que un gran n\u00famero de usuarios frecuentan un exchange. Esto refleja un fuerte indicador de confianza y estabilidad, los cuales son esenciales dentro del espacio de las criptomonedas.
    <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    En segundo lugar, el volumen de operaciones implica que existe un mercado de negociaci\u00f3n activo, esto quiere decir que puede comprar y vender criptomonedas de forma r\u00e1pida, sencilla y a un precio justo.

    Por tales motivos, el volumen de operaciones es uno de los mejores indicadores de si es conveniente usar un exchange o no. Trate de limitarse a los servicios que procesan grandes cantidades de transacciones.

    # 2 – Comunidad<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    Aquellos exchanges de criptomonedas que est\u00e1n dise\u00f1ados para perdurar tienden a tener una de dos cosas. Primero, una comunidad activa que interact\u00faa mediante un canal de Telegram, un foro p\u00fablico o una p\u00e1gina de red social. En segundo lugar, una base de conocimientos (como la que se encuentra leyendo en este momento) esta se esfuerza por educar a sus usuarios sobre las criptomonedas y la tecnolog\u00eda del blockchain.

    La raz\u00f3n es simple. La creaci\u00f3n de una comunidad y \/ o una base de conocimientos requiere mucho tiempo y recursos. Si un exchange tiene uno, es muy probable que la compa\u00f1\u00eda realmente est\u00e9 proporcionando valores agregados a los usuarios que invierten en su propio \u00e9xito a largo plazo, otro factor predictivo de estabilidad y seguridad del usuario.

    Por otro lado, si quiere evitar las plataformas que claramente van en busca de dinero en efectivo al cobrar tarifas altas. Como regla general, tenga cuidado con las tarifas OTC que excedan el 1.5% as\u00ed como las tarifas de intercambio que excedan el 0.5%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    # 4 – Reputaci\u00f3n<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    \u00bfPuede usted encontrar alguna noticia sospechosa acerca de un exchange que est\u00e1s considerando? Sencillamente disp\u00f3ngase a realizar una b\u00fasqueda en Google y compruebe si aparece un exchange en sitios de medios populares y de buena reputaci\u00f3n, como CCN, AMBcrypto y CoinTelegraph. La cobertura y la exposici\u00f3n deben estar presentes, dado que un exchange quer\u00eda recibir la validaci\u00f3n por parte p\u00fablico. Otro aspecto a considerar es la cantidad de comentarios en l\u00ednea, o posiblemente malos comentarios. Por supuesto, cada producto tiene sus cr\u00edticas, pero una gran cantidad de comentarios negativos es una mala se\u00f1al.

    Transacciones multisig<\/strong>: Esta funci\u00f3n requiere m\u00faltiples claves digitales antes de completar una transacci\u00f3n (\u00a1previniendo hacks!).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Almacenamiento en fr\u00edo (Cold storage)<\/strong>: son reservas de criptomonedas que se almacenan en un dep\u00f3sito fuera de l\u00ednea, a salvo de los ciberdelincuentes.
