Unlike Bitcoin, it\u2019s not just a coin. It\u2019s a platform used to build decentralized apps (and do many other things). <br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To that end, Ethereum\u2019s rollout is divided into 4 stages: <em>Frontier, Homestead, Metropolis, <\/em>and<em> Serenity<\/em>. We are currently in the <em>Homestead<\/em> stage &#8211; but soon, the first part of the <em>Metropolis<\/em> code update will go live. That update is called <em>Constantinople<\/em>. <br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Technically speaking, <em>Constantinopole<\/em> is going to be a hard fork. On this page, we\u2019ll explain what that means, how this update is going to change Ethereum, and why you should care. <br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What\u2019s a blockchain fork?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh4.googleusercontent.com\/oo65q2-g6f9OUDoaJ1-tHXSvPc8amc-3H6NflouPCaN-I7q2fxflZLMNY316_5lqX6PLGiju_vwU2-UxB7H2idRTQFi7bKOUPvhbRyl327OOBJiEgwAwrDka74UDYxAj1uy0sswK\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>A blockchain fork is an event that divides a blockchain into two new ledgers with different data about past transactions. It is, as the name suggests, a fork in the road of sorts. <br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are two types of forks. Some forks are <em>soft<\/em>, meaning they are backward-compatible thanks to following the old consensus rules. <br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That might sound like a lot of mumbo-jumbo, but it basically means that the general rules governing how a blockchain works don\u2019t change. After a soft fork happens, old blockchain entries still make sense because the rules haven\u2019t changed drastically. <br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Things are different with a hard fork. These change the rules so much that old entries might no longer make sense. This also means that miners, wallet owners, and everyone else need to update the code they use to make sure they retain access to the blockchain. <br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ethereum\u2019s Constantinople is a <strong>hard fork<\/strong>. It\u2019s scheduled to happen on February 27 2019, at which point the following changes will happen. <br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How\u2019s Constantinople going to change Ethereum? <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh4.googleusercontent.com\/6a2UHti-NxX2pfK7UGQ8cck1qmLQvKvNhHe1djhcFHmbetdBAsSvFObU2qpGqmfe4jNoMS1QMzb-INg037n8r6RCnh8tN5dD2tBUecdyuRhcXeUncNMq_sEYH2g1kw-1UaQKEpeh\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The Constantinopole hard fork is going to update Ethereum\u2019s blockchain with 5 Ethereum Improvement Proposals (EIPs). These are: <br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol><li><em>EIP 145<\/em> introduces a feature known as <strong>bitwise shifting<\/strong>, wherein code can be processed at a fraction of its current cost. This update will make apps like CryptoKitties fast and inexpensive. <br><\/li><li><em>EIP 1052<\/em> improves large-scaled code execution by letting the blockchain check contracts\u2019 <em>hash<\/em>, or <em>ID code, <\/em>rather than the entire contract. This saves developers a tremendous amount of processing power (and money). <\/li><li><em>EIP 1283<\/em> cuts off superfluous gas usage, meaning smart contracts require far less money and clog up the network less. <\/li><li><em>EIP 1014 <\/em>is a bit of a special update. It was created by Vitalik Buterin: the mastermind behind Ethereum. Its goal is to let Ethereum communicate with off-chain addresses, greatly improving the scalability and interoperability of the system. <\/li><li>Last but not least is<em> EIP 1234<\/em>, whose purpose is to reduce the block reward from 3 ETH to 2 ETH for 12 months. It also removes Ethereum\u2019s <strong>difficulty bomb <\/strong>feature which constantly increases the difficulty of mining new blocks. <\/li><li><\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why do these changes matter?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Although Ethereum is the second-biggest cryptocurrency by total market capitalization, its primary use is running decentralized apps. <br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To this end, it matters that Ethereum can process transactions quickly, easily, and without overtaxing the miners working the network. And that\u2019s exactly what all of these EIPs are all about: optimizing the blockchain and improving its efficiency. <br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A prior Ethereum fork &#8211; Byzantium &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/ethereum-hard-fork-byzantium-launches-without-a-hitch-ether-price-up\">boosted the cryptocurrency\u2019s value significantly<\/a>. Hoy por hoy nos encontramos en la etapa de Homestead, pero m\u00e1s temprano que tarde, Se dar\u00e1 inicio a la primera parte de la actualizaci\u00f3n del c\u00f3digo de Metropolis. Esa actualizaci\u00f3n se llama Constantinopla.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>T\u00e9cnicamente, hablamos de que Constantinople va a ser un hard fork (Tambi\u00e9n conocida como bifurcaci\u00f3n). En esta p\u00e1gina, vamos a explicar acerca de lo que esto se trata, sobre c\u00f3mo esta actualizaci\u00f3n cambiar\u00e1 a Ethereum y por qu\u00e9 deber\u00eda usted darle gran importancia.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u00bfDe que se trata una bifurcaci\u00f3n o fork de blockchain?<br><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh4.googleusercontent.com\/oo65q2-g6f9OUDoaJ1-tHXSvPc8amc-3H6NflouPCaN-I7q2fxflZLMNY316_5lqX6PLGiju_vwU2-UxB7H2idRTQFi7bKOUPvhbRyl327OOBJiEgwAwrDka74UDYxAj1uy0sswK\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Se trata de un evento que divide el blockchain en dos nuevos registros con datos diferentes sobre transacciones pasadas. Este, es tal como su nombre lo indica, una especie de bifurcaci\u00f3n en el camino.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Existen dos tipos de bifurcaci\u00f3n. Uno de ellos es denominado Soft fork, lo que significa que son retrocompatibles debido a que siguen las antiguas reglas de consenso.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Eso puede sonar bien desconcertante, pero b\u00e1sicamente significa que las normas generales que rigen el funcionamiento de un blockchain no cambian. Una vez que un soft fork se efect\u00faa, las antiguas entradas de blockchain a\u00fan tienen sentido ya que las reglas no han cambiado dr\u00e1sticamente.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Las cosas son distintas cuando se trata de un Hard fork. Los cuales modifican las reglas a tal punto que las antiguas entradas ya no tienen sentido. Esto adem\u00e1s indica que los mineros, los propietarios de carteras as\u00ed como el resto necesitan actualizar el c\u00f3digo que utilizan para asegurarse de que conservan el acceso al blockchain.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Entonces. La Constantinopla de Ethereum es un Hard fork. Y el mismo se encuentra previsto que ocurra el 27 de febrero de 2019, en el que se efectuar\u00e1n los siguientes cambios.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u00bfC\u00f3mo la Constantinopla cambiar\u00e1 Ethereum?<br><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh4.googleusercontent.com\/6a2UHti-NxX2pfK7UGQ8cck1qmLQvKvNhHe1djhcFHmbetdBAsSvFObU2qpGqmfe4jNoMS1QMzb-INg037n8r6RCnh8tN5dD2tBUecdyuRhcXeUncNMq_sEYH2g1kw-1UaQKEpeh\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>El hard fork de Constantinople actualizar\u00e1 el blockchain de Ethereum a trav\u00e9s de 5 propuestas de mejoramiento de Ethereum (EIP). Los cuales son:<br><em>E<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol><li>EIP 145 introduce una caracter\u00edstica conocida como <strong>bitwise shifting<\/strong>, en el que el c\u00f3digo puede ser procesado a una fracci\u00f3n de su costo actual. Esta actualizaci\u00f3n har\u00e1 que las aplicaciones como CryptoKitties sean r\u00e1pidas y econ\u00f3micas.<\/li><li>EIP 1052 mejoramiento a gran escala en la ejecuci\u00f3n del c\u00f3digo d\u00e1ndole entrada a el hash de verificaci\u00f3n de los contratos de blockchain o al c\u00f3digo de identificaci\u00f3n, en lugar de todo el contrato. Esto ahorra a los desarrolladores una enorme cantidad de poder de procesamiento (y dinero).<\/li><li>EIP 1283 impide el consumo de gas superfluo, lo que significa que los contratos inteligentes requieren mucho menos dinero y obstruyen menos a la red.<\/li><li>EIP 1014 se trata de una peque\u00f1a actualizaci\u00f3n especial.
